From 15 to 19 September 2025, a bilateral screening meeting under Chapter 12 “Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy” took place in Brussels between the European Commission and the Ukrainian authorities. The meeting addressed key areas of EU-Ukraine approximation, including animal health, food safety control, biosecurity, animal welfare, plant protection products, and other priority sectors.

Yurii Kosenko, Deputy Director for International Relations and European Scientific Integration at the State Scientific-Research Control Institute of Veterinary Medicinal Products and Feed Additives, represented the Ukrainian delegation and provided an overview of Ukraine’s legal and regulatory framework in the field of animal feed.

Discussions with European counterparts focused on cross-contamination of feed with antimicrobial substances, the potential for direct recognition of EU-established maximum residue levels, and cooperation with European reference laboratories.

European experts commended the high professional standards and thorough preparation of the Ukrainian experts. The screening meeting constitutes an important step in the process of aligning Ukrainian legislation with European Union requirements and standards, further supporting Ukraine’s approximation to the EU acquis.
