Ukrainian Livestock Summit: Trends and Development Prospects

On October 17, Kyiv hosted the IV Ukrainian Livestock Summit, which brought together agricultural producers, industry specialists, representatives of government bodies, and technology suppliers. The event served as a platform for discussing contemporary challenges and development prospects in the livestock sector. The Summit program included thematic panels and discussions dedicated to poultry, pig, and cattle farming, product processing and feed production, veterinary medicine, and animal care.

One of the Summit speakers was Ruslan Pelenyo, Deputy Director for Educational and Organizational Activities at the SCIVP. He delivered a presentation entitled “Water Disinfection and Acidification: Modern Tools for Reducing Antibiotic Use”, showcasing contemporary approaches to enhancing farm biosecurity and minimizing antibiotic usage in livestock production.

Within the framework of the Summit, a professional development training session titled “The Art and Secrets of Successful Production and Efficient Use of Compound Feed” was held. During the training, Yurii Kosenko, Deputy Director for International Cooperation and European Scientific Integration at the SCIVP, familiarized participants with current standards and requirements for feed additives.

Additionally, the Summit featured an exhibition of modern livestock equipment, demonstrating cutting-edge solutions and technologies designed to increase efficiency and competitiveness in the sector.

Online Seminar by Swedac

In October, Yurii Kosenko, Deputy Director for International Cooperation and European Scientific Integration at the State Scientific-Research Control Institute of Veterinary Medicinal Products and Feed Additives (SCIVP), took part in a four-day online seminar dedicated to the study of the ISO/IEC 17065 standard. The event was organized by the Swedish national accreditation body – Swedac.

During the training, participants conducted a detailed review and analysis of the provisions of the standard, focusing on issues such as impartiality, procedural and process requirements, staff competence, and technical support.

Particular attention during the seminar was devoted to aspects of certification of inspections for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. It was emphasized during the discussions that GMP certificates for the manufacture of veterinary medicinal products are issued by the competent authority – the Swedish Medical Products Agency.

Furthermore, it was underlined that international standards such as ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065 are not applicable for issuing GMP certificates for the manufacture of medicinal products.

Conference on the Occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Switzerland’s Support to Ukraine’s Dairy Sector

On 16 October 2025, a conference marking the 10th anniversary of Switzerland’s support to Ukraine’s dairy sector was held in Kyiv. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, as well as international organisations, business associations and research institution. The State Scientific Research Control Institute of Veterinary Medicinal Products and Feed Additives (SCIVP) was represented by Dr Ruslan Pelenyo, Deputy Director for Educational and Organisational Affairs, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor.

During the conference, participants discussed the main directions for the further development of Ukraine’s dairy sector, including:

  • the outcomes of cooperation between Ukraine and Switzerland in the field of dairy product safety;
  • the prospects for the European integration of the dairy industry;
  • the role of service providers and scientific institutions in strengthening the competitiveness of the sector;
  • the promotion of exports and the participation of Ukrainian producers in international initiatives.

A key moment of the event was the award ceremony for the winners of the Service Providers Competition organised within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Programme “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sectors in Ukraine” (QFTP). Following the evaluation of project proposals, the SCIVP was recognised as a winner in the category “Dissemination of Best Practices, Awareness Raising, and Development of Skills and Knowledge in the Dairy Sector.”

The Institute extends its sincere appreciation to the management and team of the QFTP Programme for their trust and continued support, which contribute to the sustainable development of Ukraine’s dairy sector and its progressive integration into the European market.
